A Call for "Live" Art-Makers, City Winery's "Barrels of Art" 2018

City Winery Chicago is seeking artists with experience in live-painting and art-making for the Summer of 2018 "Barrels of Art: Live Art Making on The Chicago Riverwalk.

Barrels of Art is a summer art program hosted by City Winery during which selected Chicago based artists plan and execute unique artworks using reclaimed oak barrels as their surface. Once complete, the Barrels of Art are displayed at various locations in the city of Chicago. Each barrel will be up for auction as well, and the proceeds are split 30/70 between the artist and that months Chicago based Non-Profit organization. 

This Summer our selected Non-Profits are:

Howard Brown Health Center, June 12th

Friends of the Chicago River, July 10th

Girl Forward, August 14th

Intuit, The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, September 11th

Artists are encouraged to visit the website for the non-profits and read about their mission before submitting to this call. 

The Details:  

-One Artist will be participating each month. The barrel completed for that month with benefit the scheduled non-profit.

-A covered area, a tarp, water, lunch and drinks can be provided to every artist. The organizers, representatives from the non-profit, and the curator will be onsite to assist in set-up and remain for the whole session.

-Artists are responsible for their materials. If you require a specific set-up or tools please include those items in your submission and we may be able to accomodate.

-In addition to prep-time for the surface of the barrel, Artists will have approximately four hours of painting time to complete their barrel. Artists will be able to return to City Winery to put finishing touches on their pieces before the work is displayed.

Artists wishing to submit are asked to incude:

-5-10 images of their artwork

-A CV or resume

-Links to their website and/or artist instagram handle

-A short proposal for a unique barrel painting. Please specify which month you are submitting for. 

A good proposal will show that the artist has knowledge of the non-profit organization they would like to be paired with, it will provide a theme or themes the artists would like to use in their work and which tie into the chosen organizations misson, and will include a rough description of the imagery the artist can forsee using in their compositions. This proposal does not have to be strictly adhered to the day of the event. Many of us at City Winery are artists ourselves, and understand that things change in the process of making.)
