Show Statement:
I challenge you to find a single social justice movement in history that was not tied together at it's roots by the solidarity of the struggling party. They have ethnicity, oppression, financial inequality, place and environment, or even their favorite food group in common and they are willing to fight for it. What does a group do that is equally stigmatized and celebrated, demonized and revered, and disabled but often very capable? In some cases solidarity is not an option. It is threatening or appears to be evidence of their confusion. This body of work represents two things; the lives we hope for our children and what happens to the people in the world who fall off the tracks. The realities of growing up on the edge of mental health.

Artist Statement:
I am here. I have been painting as a direct response to a lack of identity. Most of my adolescence I didn't know who I was and I envied the people surrounding my life whom seemed to have a favorite rock band, fashion style, subculture, or passion. I didn't know who I was, so I could not just be myself. In recognizing others from this near vacuum I found I had a special ability to empathize and a special inability to communicate that empathy verbally. My normative thought processes are; grids, graphs, cross sections and value. The combination of my inability, my ability and my nature made making art about the thoughts and experiences of people who don't want those thoughts and experiences directly communicated, unavoidable. My interests range from potentially parenting a fellow ghoul to religious dissonance at train stations. I am George Evans and this is my work.
