Activating History: Incarceration and Immigration
This is an opportunity for community members to get hands-on experience making art that has an immediate impact.
In this free multimedia arts course, students ages 12-15 from Marshall Square, Little Village, Pilsen and Brighton Park will explore immigration and deportation and its impact on our community. Participants will examine the criminalization of our communities and families and how the stripping away their status and reclassifying them as "Illegal Aliens" results in a loss of Human Rights and dignity.
Students will be introduced to Basic Film, editing, video, photography and create a performance that addresses the issue Immigration through their personal lense. This class will culminate in a final presentation at an OPEN House in May.
