Chicago Center for Music Education (ChiME) seeks a part-time Early Childhood Music teaching artist to provide curriculum-based music instruction to students in Pre-Kindergarten through 1st grade, some with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will teach weekly 30-minute music classes one day a week at one of ChiME’s partner schools in Southwest Chicago. He/she will effectively manage a classroom of 15-20 preschool students and engage them in the joy of making music. This position requires travel within the city limits, preferably by car.
The Chicago Center for Music Education was founded as the Suzuki-Orff School for Young Musicians in 1981. In 2014, we began doing business as the Chicago Center for Music Education (ChiME). Our mission is to use the language of music to inspire self-expression, self-growth, and deeper human connections. Our goal is to provide long-term access to the many gifts music provides in hopes that one day all Chicagoans will value the language of music.
We serve nearly 3,000 children every year through our programs at ChiME and ten partner organizations, six of which are Chicago Public Elementary schools. Approximately 20% of the children we serve have diverse learning abilities and over 50% of the children we serve are economically disadvantaged. We provide our students with the gift of music through the following programs:
- Early Childhood
- Classroom-based music for K-8
- Private Lessons
- Music Therapy
