This fall Spudnik Press will offer our first Artist's Residency. With this program, we will provide the resources, equipment, and space for an artist who would like to develop a body of print-based work, but lacks the resources to do so independently. We hope to encourage and enable the production of high quality prints, and to contribute to the development of an emerging Chicago artist.

Spudnik Press will provide the Artist in Residence with materials for his or her project, access to the shop during prearranged hours, and general feedback and assistance from Spudnik Press' studio monitors and assistants. The Artist will also have the option to host a lecture, round table discussion, or demonstration at Spudnik Press. At the conclusion of the residency, Spudnik Press will host a reception displaying the work created.

This program is open to all experienced printmakers. Spudnik Press does not have the ability to assist with travel and housing, and encourages only Chicago residents to apply at this time.

We aim to provide a residency that is catered to the individual artist. The duration and budget of the residency will be determined by the specific needs of the accepted project. Artists that wish to work collaboratively may apply together.

Spudnik Press is a comprehensive cooperative artist studio. Spudnik functions primarily as a space for artists to realize independent projects that require specialized equipment in the areas of Lithography, Intaglio, Relief, Silkscreen, mono-printing, and book binding. Artists work in close proximity to each other, sharing materials and presses, such that the artwork and art-making practices of each participant informs and influences everyone utilizing the space. Community members interested in printmaking are invited to join classes, workshops, and discussions that take place in the studio. Experienced printmakers are invited to participate in Open Studio. Spudnik Press contributes to other projects to provide services and events that foster interactions between diverse members of the community and nurture local culture.
