Chicago Artists Coalition's Chicago Artist to Watch presentation with Patricia Perez followed by Artists' Salon with Candida Alvarez. Brought to you by the Chicago Artist Coalition and The Institute of Puerto Rican Art and Culture, this event will be held at La Bruquena restaurant on Division Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Patricia Perez will give a slide lecture and host a discussion about her work. She is a local Chicago artist born in 1979 to a Puerto Rican father and Guatemalan mother. At the age of nine she taught herself how to paint with oils. By the age of sixteen, she was painting replicas of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel scenes onto antique furniture. Her inspiration derives from many places, especially her Latin urban culture. In much of her work, this is reflected when a fusion of these worlds are born. She also embraces bold and vibrant colors within her work to enhance the images she creates on canvas. Patricia currently teaches art to youth and adults, sharing her artistic blessings as a way of giving back to the world.
Candida Alvarez is Associate Professor in the Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Alvarez received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from Yale School of Art, New Haven, CT.
